Karpowership lights up young minds on International Literacy Day

On International Literacy Day, Karpowership in Sekondi-Takoradi celebrated the joy of reading and learning by hosting an engaging session for pupils at Essipong STMA Basic School. The event, themed "Light Up! Read to Lead – Powering Young Minds for a Brighter Tomorrow," brought together Karpowership employees and students from pre-school to upper primary for a day of storytelling, reading, and interactive learning activities.

Employees led storytelling sessions, giving pupils the chance to listen to stories, share their thoughts, and discover the pleasure of reading. The pupils also participated in coloring and other interactive exercises, further enhancing their enthusiasm for books and learning.

Karpowership provided the school with age-appropriate storybooks, school bags, and other educational materials to equip students with additional resources for the new academic year. Their Communications Manager, Sandra Amarquaye, emphasized how reading plays a crucial role in helping children develop knowledge, imagination, and confidence to shape their future.

Sandra Amarquaye said, "Every child has the potential to become a leader, and we believe reading can help them discover that potential. Through our 'Light Up! Read to Lead' initiative, we want to encourage children to read, imagine, learn, and dream."

The Headmistress of Essipong STMA Basic School, Mary Quayson, expressed gratitude to Karpowership for supporting the school's efforts to encourage reading. She emphasized that books are vital for the learning journey, adding, "We are grateful to Karpowership for not only providing these books and other materials but also spending time with our pupils and making reading enjoyable for them."

Nana Kofi Abuna V, Chief of Essipong, also commended the initiative for promoting reading and offering an engaging opportunity for pupils to interact with professionals while nurturing their interest in books and learning. He encouraged the pupils to make good use of the donated materials and embrace reading as an essential aspect of their development.

The pupils themselves appreciated the experience, with one participant stating, "I enjoyed the stories because they were interesting and I learnt new things. I am happy that we have new books to read, and I will read them and share the stories with my friends."

The event also featured the "One Staff, One Book" contribution, wherein Karpowership employees donated storybooks or other suitable reading materials to support the school's reading resources. This allowed staff to contribute directly to the initiative while enabling them to interact with the pupils, share their time, and inspire them in their reading journey.
