Joe DiGenova resigns from DOJ after overseeing "grand conspiracy" probe

Joe DiGenova, the prosecutor overseeing the grand conspiracy investigation targeting Obama- and Biden-era officials, resigned from the Department of Justice on Thursday. DiGenova, who was appointed by Attorney General Todd Blanche, cited his wife, attorney Victoria Toensing, as also leaving the Justice Department. The reason for DiGenova's sudden departure remains undisclosed.

His resignation follows recent emails to witnesses' lawyers notifying them of potential grand jury subpoenas, and DiGenova's investigators reaching out to former FBI agents' lawyers seeking voluntary interviews. DiGenova was appointed to the role in April after his predecessor was removed under suspicion of political motivation.

The investigation, based in Fort Pierce, Florida, also includes a probe into whether Brennan lied to Congress about Russian interference in the 2016 election. Brennan has since sued the Trump administration over the investigations. DiGenova previously represented Trump's campaign in their failed attempt to overturn the 2020 election results.
