Islamabad Traffic Police Forced to Fine Drivers Even if There’s No Violation

Islamabad Traffic Police has directed its field officers to issue 50 traffic tickets and file two FIRs daily, according to sources. Wardens are under pressure to meet this quota or face consequences, with the potential to generate thousands of tickets across the city, even at a lower enforcement rate. Over 50 officers are reportedly on duty, with each warden capable of issuing up to 20 challans per day, totaling around 2,500 challans daily if the full target is met.

The recent crackdown on bikers and drivers using ride-hailing apps like inDrive and Bykea has raised concerns about whether the primary goal is road safety or generating revenue. Additionally, the police have introduced an extra fee of Rs. 2,000 for the same-day issuance of driving licenses, further increasing their earnings. Critics are questioning the utilization of these additional collections.
