‘I’ll put sellotape in Wike’s mouth if I appoint him’ — SDP’s Adebayo

Adewole Adebayo, the presidential contender from the Social Democratic Party, has stated his intention to place sellotape over the mouth of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike if he were to be appointed to his cabinet. This assertion was made during an interview with Symfoni TV, where Adebayo discussed governance, the administration's performance, and recent political events, such as the Osun State election.

While acknowledging Wike's strong work ethic and his contributions to infrastructure development in the FCT, Adebayo sharply criticized the minister's communication style and his glorification of force and state power. Despite this, the presidential candidate did not dismiss Wike's efforts entirely. According to Adebayo, previous FCT ministers had achieved less than Wike, and if the commissioners of works across the states matched Wike's output, Nigeria's infrastructure would significantly improve.

Adebayo recognized that contracts awarded under Wike's leadership might be inflated, and value for money might be lacking. However, he maintained that visible work is being done and that travel has become easier while daily life has improved due to the projects being executed. Despite his praise, Adebayo described Wike as a "bad example for Nigerian politics" due to his approach to using force and state power.
