I wouldn’t have married Simi if she were SS or AS – Adekunle Gold

Nigerian singer Adekunle Gold has revealed that he would not have married his wife Simi, if she were a sickle cell carrier. The musician, who is currently living with the condition, made the statement while shedding light on the importance of genotype compatibility in relationships. Adekunle previously shared that he suffered from severe sickle cell crises as a child, which prompted him to be cautious about potential risks when starting a family.

He and Simi, whose genotype is AA, checked their genotypes before even dating, ensuring they were compatible. Adekunle explained that he wouldn't have married Simi if she had the SS or AS genotype, as he believes it would be unfair to bring a child into the world who would have to endure the same hardships he faced. He emphasized that love should not be hindered by sickle cell, but people should still make informed reproductive decisions based on their genotypes.
