I chose local government because it needs fixing – Mahama Ayariga

Former Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has revealed that his decision to transition from Parliament to the Executive was an individual choice driven by his commitment to improving Ghana's local governance system. The Minister for Local Government explained that his parliamentary work had reached a stable point, making a return to the Executive a more impactful way to utilize his experience and skills.

Ayariga highlighted that Parliament had already accomplished crucial tasks such as approving government nominees, passing major budgets, and considering judicial appointments. He further stated that remaining in Parliament would primarily involve waiting for significant annual events like the presentation of the national budget and the State of the Nation Address.

In contrast, the Executive demands continuous attention and more intensive work. Ayariga expressed his eagerness to contribute his expertise to the government, despite initial reluctance from President John Dramani Mahama to release him from his parliamentary duties.
