Houthis capture Red Sea port in blow to Saudis

Yemen's conflict appears to be resurfacing as Iran-supported Houthis took control of a vital Red Sea port city from allies of the internationally recognized government. The strategic port city of Mokha, located on the Bab al-Mandeb, is the gateway to the Red Sea and has become an increasingly important shipping choke point. The Houthi fighters have been chanting death to the U.S. and Israel as they entered a government building, captured armored vehicles, freed prisoners, and joyously rode around Mokha Airport. The Houthis have been attacking Saudi energy and military installations, resulting in civilian casualties. Mohamed A-Bukhai, a Houthi spokesperson, declared that the fight for Yemen's western coast must be decisive and that they are willing to engage in direct confrontation with their opponents.

However, the Houthis also stated that they do not need to take control of the Bab al-Mandab or Perim Island, as their missiles can reach any ships in the sea. The ongoing conflict has pushed the price of Brent crude above $105 a barrel, causing concern over global supply routes.
