Hideo Kojima moves Physint to Xbox, seemingly breaks up with Sony

Hideo Kojima's secretive "action-espionage" project, Physint, will be published by Xbox instead of Sony Interactive Entertainment, according to a joint announcement from the two companies. Kojima Productions confirmed that they remain committed to redefining the genre for players worldwide. Sony's decision to cancel Physint precipitated the partnership with Xbox, not Microsoft's alleged secret admiration for Kojima.

This announcement comes after Xbox announced it would publish Kojima's upcoming first-person horror game, OD, in 2023, further complicating the relationship between Kojima and Sony, his publishing partners for Death Stranding and Death Stranding 2: On The Beach. Physint was originally announced as a PlayStation exclusive during Sony's 2024 State Of Play event.

Kojima remains tight-lipped about the project, but described it as a unique blend of "interactive game" and "movie," utilizing cutting-edge technology and top-tier talents from both the film and video game industries. The project is estimated to be 5-6 years away from completion. Sony released a statement attempting to soften the blow, stating that their split with Kojima Productions is amicable, and that they remain friends and may even have brunch together someday, despite their busy schedules.
