Can you believe it? In the space of a few months, Ford's mighty Ranger Raptor has fallen all the way done to 8th position.

GWM to enter ‘SA’s Fastest Bakkie’ war with new P300 PHEV

Great Wall Motors (GWM) South Africa has announced that their new P300 plug-in hybrid bakkie will be available in the country from the third quarter of the year. Positioned as an alternative to the existing 2.4-litre turbo diesel model, the P300 PHEV will also join the Top 10 Fastest Bakkies in South Africa. The GWM P300 PHEV combines a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a 33.1kWh battery pack and an electric motor, boosting its output to 310kW and 750Nm of torque.

Both the two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive versions of the P300 PHEV can go from 0-100km/h in 6.4 and 6.1 seconds, respectively. The P300 PHEV also boasts an all-electric range of 100km (two-wheel drive) and 95km (four-wheel drive) in the WLTP cycle. Although the specific fuel tank size remains undisclosed, a calculated estimate suggests a 70-litre capacity.

With no pricing announced yet, the P300 PHEV is expected to cost more than the current P300 range, which starts at R414,950 and goes up to R699,900.
