GTA seizes over 200kg of unauthorised tobacco products

The Qatar General Tax Authority (GTA) recently seized more than 200 kilograms of tobacco products during an inspection campaign targeting several commercial establishments. In a press release, the agency explained that its teams, working in coordination with relevant authorities, found violations related to tobacco products lacking authorized tax stamps and excise goods not authorized for sale.

The campaign's objective was to ensure compliance with Qatar's Excise Tax Law and the regulations regulating excise goods circulation. Following the inspection, the GTA's Anti-Tax Evasion team took appropriate action against non-compliant outlets and recorded the violations to initiate the necessary legal procedures. Tax stamps, unique identifiers placed on excise goods under the tax stamp system, indicate that the appropriate tax has been paid and confirm the legality of trading the goods.

Unauthorized trading of such goods is strictly prohibited by the legislation and procedures established by the law. The GTA emphasized its dedication to conducting further inspection campaigns, in collaboration and coordination with relevant authorities, to enhance market oversight and combat illegal trade in excise goods, thereby promoting tax law compliance and safeguarding public health.

The authority also advised cigarette and tobacco product importers to register on the Dhareeba platform within the excise goods track-and-trace system, stressing that the import or circulation of excise goods within the country is prohibited without valid and active excise stamps. Compliance with relevant laws and executive regulations is essential to avoid legal consequences.
