Google’s hyper-personalized ‘Dreambeans’ feed is now free to test [U]

Google Labs has launched a free experimental app called Dreambeans that offers hyper-personalized daily stories. Previously, this app was only accessible to subscribers and required a paid subscription. However, starting today, Google has made it available free of charge to all users with a Google account in the United States.

Dreambeans operates much like Google Now or Discover, utilizing Google's Personal Intelligence system to study various aspects of a user's digital life, including Gmail, Google Photos, Calendar, Workspace, Search history, and YouTube activity. During the initial setup, users can choose which apps Dreambeans can access. By combining these unique indicators, Dreambeans can generate customized daily visual stories proactively.

Each story includes topics to explore, activities to try, destinations to visit, and engaging events. Instead of using generic images, each story is accompanied by artwork created by Nano Banana 2, using an illustrated style. For instance, if Dreambeans recommends a hike, the user might see themselves and a group of friends at that location.

Tapping on a story reveals a more detailed description, such as trail specifics, stopping points, attire recommendations, and timing advice. Dreambeans also links to web content on trail guides.

Additionally, there's an "Ask anything" chat feature for users to seek more information and leave feedback by tapping a heart or downvoting. The chat interface enables users to provide further details. The name "Dreambeans" reflects the app's concept of processing content across connected apps overnight and distilling it into "beans" – fresh stories personalized for the user each morning.

Dreambeans has been available for Google AI Ultra subscribers since June, and Google expanded the app's reach to AI Pro earlier this month. The setup process can take up to a day to build the first set of stories. While Dreambeans currently operates as a standalone experience, Daily Brief in the Gemini app may benefit from a more visually-driven interface in the future. Available on both Android and iOS platforms in the US, Dreambeans provides a unique visual storytelling experience.
