General : Long Lellang Crash: Jessie Paya’s Dream Of Further Studies Cut Short - Close Friend

Nurse Jessie Paya Jok, 44, had a dream of pursuing further education that was tragically cut short when she was killed in a flying doctor service helicopter crash in Long Lellang. Her close friend, Caroline Sawai Joseph Chungat, expressed that Paya had told her that the current month would be her final assignment with the FDS, as she was planning to begin an Advanced Diploma in Midwifery the following year.

The dream of continuing her studies was not realized. Paya and Caroline had been friends since 2005, when they were both community nurse trainees at the Health Ministry Training Institute in Serian. Paya was known for her soft-spoken nature and ability to brighten the atmosphere around her with her cheerful demeanor. Throughout their 21-year friendship, Paya's kindness and compassion were evident, especially during her service at Bario Health Clinic, where her dedication won the affection of the entire community.

Caroline also knew another nurse, Debra Moset, who was killed in the crash. Debra was known for her friendly, approachable nature and her fondness for joking around. Both Paya and Debra were described to be meticulous and responsible in their duties, with a caring attitude towards patients.
