Former Exeter star Joey Schlaffer finds opportunity, authenticity at Temple

Joey Schlaffer, a former standout at Exeter, has found a new opportunity and authenticity at Temple. After the firing of James Franklin at Penn State, Schlaffer was the first player to transfer. He expressed his desire to find a team where he could be a contributor and ultimately chose Temple for that reason. Despite leaving behind friendships and familiarity, Schlaffer acknowledges the discomfort of the transition.

He made his debut for Temple in their season-opening victory over Rhode Island and will face his former Penn State teammates in an upcoming game at Lincoln Financial Field. Despite the different coaching staff and roster, Schlaffer views the game as a standard competition rather than holding any special significance. His time at Exeter was marked by notable achievements, including leading the team to a 12-1 record as a senior, catching 38 passes for 879 yards and nine touchdowns, and rushing for 246 yards and three touchdowns.

Despite being committed to Penn State like his brother Michal Menet, Schlaffer struggled to secure a starting position and eventually transferred to Temple, drawn to the staff and familiarity of the city. Temple coach K.C. Keeler, a former student at Emmaus High like Schlaffer, has been appreciated by the player for his genuine approach towards players.
