FM Cho seeks Ugandan support for Korean nuclear, AI push

SEOUL, September 10 (Yonhap) - South Korea's Foreign Minister Cho Hyun met Uganda's Second Deputy Prime Minister Crispus Walter Kiyonga on Thursday, urging the African nation to back South Korean companies operating within Uganda, according to the country's ministry. Cho highlighted the advancements both nations have achieved in nuclear cooperation, with Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power recently contracted by Uganda's energy ministry in May of the previous year to evaluate a prospective site in the Buyende region for the country's inaugural nuclear power facility.

The minister requested Uganda's continued support for South Korean enterprises in the nuclear energy domain and the burgeoning artificial intelligence (AI) sector. Kiyonga, in turn, stated that he would explore avenues to assist South Korean businesses, as reported by the ministry. Additionally, the two countries agreed to bolster cooperation in various sectors, including agriculture, mineral resources, tourism, energy, and information and communications technology.
