Fenerbahce coach announces resignation, club president tells him to stay

On Thursday, Fenerbahce head coach Ismail Kartal announced his resignation following a 1-1 draw with Roma in their return to the Champions League. Despite this, Fenerbahce president Aziz Yildirim swiftly stated that Kartal would remain in his position just minutes later. Kartal, a 65-year-old coach, expressed his intention to leave never to return during a press conference, emphasizing that his decision aimed to make room for the club.

However, just after the press conference, Yildirim clarified that Kartal would continue in his role, describing Kartal's actions as an expression of frustration following an incident involving a thrown bottle by some fans during the match. The coach was reportedly upset about this event, which he addressed in his conversation with Yildirim.
