Ex-transport chief Bautista joins Atlas Mining board

Manila, Philippines — Atlas Consolidated Mining and Development Corp., a Sy-led company, has expanded its board of directors with the addition of former transportation secretary Jaime Bautista. Bautista, who served as transportation secretary from 2022 to 2025, was elected as an independent director during a special meeting held on September 9.

Before his role in transportation, Bautista held various positions at Philippine Airlines, including president and chief operating officer, executive vice president and chief finance officer, and currently serves on the boards of several Philippine companies. The appointment of Bautista comes as Atlas Mining undergoes a significant restructuring following the acquisition of a 20.43-percent stake by Dominion Holdings Inc. (DHI) from the Ramos family’s Anglo Philippine Holdings Corp. This move follows a reversal in the company's fortunes, as it reported a net income of P4.61 billion in the first semester, marking a stark contrast to the P653-million loss it incurred during the same period in the previous year.

The company's revenue also saw a substantial increase of 64 percent, reaching P12.98 billion, driven by higher prices and production from its copper and gold operations. In the same period last year, the company had a net loss of P653 million, and its revenues stood at P7.94 billion. During this period, Atlas Mining produced 76,000 dry metric tons of copper concentrate, a 17 percent increase from 65,000 dry metric tons in the same period last year, and gold production totaled 7,792 ounces, up from 7,751 ounces in 2025. Copper ore prices averaged $5.97 per pound, while gold prices remained strong at $4,622 per ounce.
