Evasive Alonso teases reporters on his F1 future

Spanish Formula One champion Fernando Alonso left reporters puzzled on the eve of the Spanish Grand Prix when he hinted that he was contemplating various options for his future with Aston Martin. The 45-year-old, who has won the championship twice, refrained from making a definitive announcement despite the team's struggles in the new hybrid-era cars this season.

When probed about an imminent decision, Alonso responded with a non-committal "Not soon" and an equally evasive "Because I think it's nice." The enigmatic driver preferred to dodge questions about whether Aston Martin was pressuring him to commit, but couldn't hide his awareness of other drivers approaching team owner Lawrence Stroll about a possible vacant seat.

In an apparent attempt to ease the pressure, Alonso expressed his hope that the upcoming rule changes would make racing more enjoyable and satisfying in the coming year, stating, "Next year, there is a step, in the right direction, hopefully."
