England pile on the pain by stretching lead over Pakistan to 166 runs on Day 2

BIRMINGHAM, England (AP) — England extended its lead over Pakistan to an imposing 166 runs on Day 2 of the Ebdgaston test on Thursday. Jamie Smith began the day on 47 runs with one thumb in a splint, while Gus Atkinson was at 5.

Harry Brook and Dan Lawrence were the wickets taken, both frustrated batters. Brook was dismissed by Shan Masood after scoring 75 runs, while Lawrence was bowled by Mohammad Imran at 65. Lawrence had reached his fifty in three consecutive tests.

Smith's thumb injury affected his timing, but he still managed to score six runs, including a six over long-on. Atkinson was initially given out but was later found to be not out.
