Delhi Schools Open Admissions For Vacant EWS, Freeship Seats From Class 2 Onwards

Delhi has launched online admissions for EWS (Economically Weaker Section) and freeship seats in private unaided recognized schools for Class 2 and above for the 2026-27 academic session. The application window opened on Tuesday and closes on September 20. Parents can apply through the computerized admission module, which will draw lots for admissions on September 24.

The EWS category is for families with an annual income below Rs 5 lakh, and applicants must submit a valid income certificate from the Delhi government's Revenue Department. Families with BPL, AAY ration cards, or food security cards can also apply, provided they are residents of Delhi. The age limit for Class 2 is six years but must be below seven years as of March 31. Each class has an increasing age limit of one year up to Class 9.

Parents are allowed to apply for only one child per application and multiple submissions may lead to the cancellation of their candidature. The department has cautioned against providing incorrect residential addresses during application, as this could result in disciplinary action. After the draw, nearly 30 zonal teams will verify the documents of selected candidates. Private schools must adhere to the rules, and any violations may result in action under applicable provisions.
