DAP tak senang ramalan pilihan raya, Kian Ming ulas keluar DAP

Former Bangi MP Ong Kian Ming has expressed dissatisfaction with the Democratic Action Party (DAP) following their prediction of a major defeat for Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the Johor regional election. Speaking in a recent episode of the podcast "Keluar Sekejap," Ong revealed that his discontent with DAP stemmed from their failure to retain his seat in the 2022 Central Executive Committee (CEC) election.

The tensions between Ong and DAP began after Ong predicted that PH would suffer a significant loss in the Johor regional election. He claimed that the prediction was initially made during a closed media briefing, but became public following certain individuals obtaining a copy of his forecast. Ong clarified that his intention was not to disparage PH or damage DAP, but to provide a warning based on the prevailing circumstances.

A significant prediction of his came prior to the 2018 National Election, including the possibility that DAP Deputy President Loke Siew Fook might lose his seat in the Dewan Undangan Negeri (DUN) Chennah to the Barisan Nasional candidate Siow Kong Choon, which ultimately occurred with a margin of 688 votes. Ong explained that he provided the reasoning behind his prediction, emphasizing that it was not due to Loke's lack of service but rather the strong prevailing winds against PH, which he strongly opposed.

Despite his decision to leave DAP on August 31, Ong stated that he did not anticipate any of his former party members to raise concerns about his prediction or question his analytical methods, as he believed it would be beneficial for DAP to prepare for future elections. Ong had been with DAP since 2012 and had previously served as a political assistant for health minister Khairy Jamaluddin if he were to be nominated.

In the two weeks following his announcement of leaving the party, Ong reported that no one, including Loke, reached out to him to persuade him to remain within the party. He attributed the ostracization of professional individuals like himself and former DAP leader Tony Pua to the gradual exclusion process rather than an abrupt one.

Pua had lost the Selangor state election and was not included in the state executive committee list before both Ong and Pua were sidelined during the CEC election. Ong confirmed that he had already decided not to contest in the 2022 general election before the CEC election failure, and had even advised then-CEC President Lim Guan Eng not to assume the presidency in DAP, believing it marked the beginning of his exit from the party.
