Court orders INEC to recognise NDC’s new logo

The Federal High Court in Abuja has directed the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to adopt and utilize the revised digital logo of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC. Seriake Dickson, a former Bayelsa State Governor and NDC leader, announced the ruling in a statement on Wednesday. The decision came following a lawsuit filed by the party to ensure INEC recognizes and employs the modified logo as outlined in its constitution rather than the initial association logo used for its registration.

Dickson stated that the NDC's initial National Executive Council meeting approved the submission of the revised logo to INEC, which had initially uploaded it. However, the commission subsequently removed the modified logo without providing any explanation and reverted to the previous association logo. Dickson explained that the NDC's party members and candidates should promptly incorporate the constitutionally endorsed modified logo onto their campaign materials, including banners, posters, and other promotional materials.

He noted that both logos maintain the two-finger victory sign but emphasized that the modified logo is the authoritative one as per the party's constitution and is more widely recognized. Dickson acknowledged that some candidates and party members might have already made preparations using the alternate logo and expressed regret for any inconvenience caused. He characterized the logo dispute as part of the "administrative machinations" the party has faced.
