Court delays can amount to denial of justice – Mahama

President John Mahama has expressed concern over the detrimental impact of extended court proceedings, unnecessary adjournments, and delayed judgments on public trust in Ghana's judicial system. He emphasized that such delays can not only erode confidence in the legal system but potentially constitute a denial of justice itself.

Mahama implored the judiciary to undertake reforms aimed at enhancing efficiency and leveraging appropriate technology to make justice more attainable for all Ghanaians, irrespective of their financial means, social standing, or geographical location. He stressed that access to justice should not be contingent upon a person's income, status, or location.

The President also urged the Supreme Court to communicate its reasoning with "extreme clarity," arguing that clear and well-reasoned judgments would bolster the law and foster public respect and confidence in the judiciary. Mahama further stressed the judiciary's responsibility to maintain public trust by making sound decisions, demonstrating judicial discipline, ensuring court accessibility, and delivering justice in a timely manner.
