Civil servant detained for allegedly recording man in supermarket toilet

In Maran, Pahang, a 39-year-old civil servant has been taken into custody for allegedly recording a 22-year-old man using a video camera while the victim was in the supermarket restroom. The victim reported the incident to the police, claiming that an unknown individual had captured a video of him inside the toilet. The police investigation eventually led to the arrest of the suspect at a restaurant close to the supermarket.

Wong Kim Wai, the Maran police chief, disclosed that the suspect confessed to taking both videos and pictures of the victim. As part of the ongoing investigation, police confiscated the suspect's mobile phone. The individual was subsequently placed under three days of police custody to aid the ongoing investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code for causing "public offense" and Section 292 for possessing "obscene material."
