‘Chairing Ad Hoc is testing and difficult’: Lekganyane

Soviet Lekganyane, chairperson of Parliament’s Ad hoc committee investigating national security matters, has described chairing the committee as both testing and challenging. The committee, which has been active for over a year, is currently finalizing its draft preliminary report. Last week, the committee experienced turmoil during a vigorous debate surrounding the dismissal of Crime Intelligence deputy head Feroz Khan.

Lekganyane candidly discussed the strain of leading such intense discussions. "Chairing the ad hoc committee has been an exceptionally demanding task. It is far from simple, and maintaining composure and vigor in committee meetings has been a demanding requirement. It presents a significant challenge." As Parliament's Ad Hoc Committee nears the completion of its report, MPs are meticulously reviewing each clause of the draft, incorporating testimonies and data gathered throughout the months of hearings.
