Canada agrees air defence package for Ukraine - Zelensky

President Volodymyr Zelensky announced Canada's significant air defence package for Ukraine during a meeting with Prime Minister Mark Carney. This comes as Ukraine faces increasing attacks from Russia. Canada has provided over C$25.5 billion in overall aid to Ukraine since its invasion in February 2022, with C$8.5 billion specifically in military assistance.

Zelensky emphasized the importance of this air defence support, stressing its crucial nature to Ukraine's defense efforts. Carney assured Canada would continue to offer aid to help Ukraine defend against Russian attacks and support its bid for NATO and EU membership. Recent Russian strikes on strategic Ukrainian infrastructure, including a petrol station in Kyiv and an agribusiness facility in Dnipro, highlight the escalating nature of the conflict.

These attacks target logistics and economic sectors, aiming to cripple Ukraine's war capabilities. Meanwhile, Russian assaults on civilian and industrial facilities in Ukraine continue, with casualties reported in various regions, underscoring the deteriorating situation.
