Bono East: Speed up Nkoranza 24-hour market project or risk termination – Regional Minister warns contractor

The Bono East Regional Minister, Francis Owusu Antwi, has threatened to terminate the contract of the contractor working on the Nkoranza South 24-hour market project if they fail to expedite construction. During an inspection on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, Minister Antwi expressed his dissatisfaction with the slow progress at the project site.

The Nkoranza Municipality project is part of the government's 24-hour market initiative, which encompasses 11 markets across the region categorized into Model 1, Model 2, and Model 3. Model 1 projects are more advanced, having progressed beyond the substructure level, whereas Nkoranza is still at the substructure stage, according to Minister Antwi.

He emphasized that the contractor, who was one of the first to receive a contract in the region, must accelerate work to avoid termination. The 24-hour market is a critical component of the New Democracy (NDC) manifesto aimed at economic transformation, promising facilities such as a police station, clinic, fire post, restaurants, and employment opportunities for the youth.

The Nkoranza South Municipal Chief Executive, Godfred Dapaah, confirmed the Minister's concerns, stating that the Assembly has repeatedly complained about the contractor's delays. Dapaah expressed hope that the contractor will adhere to their promise of completing the project within 24 months. Minister Antwi urged all stakeholders to monitor the project closely and report any infractions to ensure prompt action.
