BAeK PTPTN helps students focus on studies, build a brighter future

The National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) has launched the eKasih Children's Scholarship Initiative (BAeK PTPTN) to provide financial support to students from low-income families, enabling them to concentrate on their studies without the stress of part-time employment or loan repayment after graduation. The scholarship initiative, introduced in the 2026 Budget, has allocated RM120 million annually to convert standard PTPTN loans into scholarships for 5,800 students pursuing full-time Diploma or Bachelor's Degree programmes at public higher education institutions.

For instance, Ahmad Fitri Nor, a 23-year-old electronic engineering student at UiTM, received RM26,600 in scholarship funds, allowing him to focus on his studies without having to work part-time. Similarly, 22-year-old Irwana Mahad, a Human Resource Management student at UiTM Puncak Alam, was granted approximately RM18,000 in support to cover tuition fees and living expenses. Both students expressed gratitude for the scholarship, highlighting its positive impact on their academic pursuits.

The BAeK PTPTN initiative is designed for Malaysian citizens aged 25 or younger who are enrolled in PTPTN-approved programmes, have no outstanding loan arrears, and have at least one semester remaining in their studies. Eligible students receive the scholarship based on the loan amount or rate they are eligible for. The scheme aims to ensure that financial hardships do not hinder students from disadvantaged backgrounds from pursuing higher education.
