Army Redeploys Theatre Commander, Abubakar, 14 Generals in Minor Shake-up

Abuja - The Nigerian Army has made a minor change to its leadership structure, relocating Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar and 14 other generals. This move, approved by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, aims to enhance operational effectiveness and align the Army's command with Nigeria's changing security landscape.

New postings were strategically distributed across various key command, operational, and staff appointments. Major General IA Ajose, who previously served at Army Headquarters, will now lead the Joint Task Force North-East as its Theatre Commander. Major General AE Abubakar, on the other hand, has been reassigned to the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre as the Dean of the Faculty of Operational Research.

Other officers have also been moved to different positions. Major General AM Alechenu will now lead the Faculty of Operational Research at the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre, while Major General RT Utsaha has moved to the Defence Headquarters Garrison as the Commander. Major General AM Umar will take up the role of Commandant at the Army War College Nigeria, and Major General UM Alkali will return to the Defence Headquarters Garrison.

At the operational level, Brigadier General AA Bello will take up a new role at the Defence Headquarters, while Brigadier General MS Adamu will lead the newly formed 8 Brigade. Brigadier General AS Bugaje will take up the role of Director of Administration at the Land Forces Simulation Centre, among others.

The Chief of Army Staff emphasized that these changes are intended to ensure that the right leadership, experience, and expertise are positioned to deliver decisive effects. The Army remains committed to sustaining dynamic leadership and force-employment frameworks that enhance operational outcomes and strengthen joint and inter-agency coordination.
