Aluminium fabricator arrested for vandalising railway fencing in Ogun

On Tuesday evening, the Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps (So-Safe Corps) apprehended a 33-year-old man named Fatai Olamilekan for allegedly damaging and attempting to steal railway fencing belonging to the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC). The arrest transpired around 10:00 p.m. during a routine patrol by officers from the Agbado/Oke-Aro/Ibaragun Area Command, led by Area Commander, ACC Akeem Olaiya.

According to a statement released by Soji Ganzallo, the State Commander of the Corps, the suspect was discovered carrying various iron fittings, which were believed to have been removed from the NRC railway fencing and packed in a sack for sale. During questioning, Olamilekan admitted to starting the removal of the iron components around 8:00 p.m. the previous day, continuing until between 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. before returning home to rest and planning to retrieve the items later.

The So-Safe Corps warned that the destruction of railway infrastructure poses a significant security threat, as it could leave railway facilities vulnerable to criminal activities and endanger passengers and operations. The State Commander emphasized the Corps' dedication to safeguarding critical national infrastructure and preventing vandalism and theft across Ogun State.

Ganzallo called on the public to remain alert and report any suspicious activities near railway lines and other public assets to the relevant authorities. The arrested suspect and the recovered items have been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation and potential prosecution.
