Already-compliant taxpayers: FBR chief urges FPCCI leaders to help ease burden

In a meeting held in Karachi, the Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Rashid Mahmood Langrial, called upon the leaders of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) to actively promote the retailers’ scheme. This initiative is designed to alleviate the financial strain currently experienced by already-compliant taxpayers. The meeting took place during Langrial's monthly visit to discuss strengthening ties between the tax authority and the business community.

The FPCCI delegation was headed by Senior Vice President Saquib Fayyaz Magoon, with Langrial accompanied by officials from the Members for Operations, Customs, and other senior FBR personnel. The meeting was a follow-up to a previous session, where FPCCI representatives acknowledged the benefits of monthly exchanges in improving communication between the tax body and trade organizations.

The majority of concerns raised in the earlier meeting had been addressed through the efforts of the Members for Operations and their teams.

During the meeting, FPCCI representatives reiterated their demands for continued follow-ups on outstanding matters and presented new issues, such as classification disputes and unresolved income tax refunds dating back several years. FBR officials assured the delegates that both the pending and newly raised issues would be addressed promptly, in consultation with chamber representatives and relevant FBR divisions.

Langrial emphasized the tax authority's commitment to maintaining a "facilitative and responsive" relationship with the business community, highlighting the importance of ongoing dialogue with trade bodies to promptly address taxpayer concerns and build trust between the administration and taxpayers.
