Aidil and 2 doubles pairs smash into Vietnam Open quarter-finals

KUALA LUMPUR: Shuttler Aidil Sholeh Ali Sadikin, ranked 91st in the world, advanced to the quarter-finals of the Vietnam Open in Ho Chi Minh City on Sunday. The Malaysian player defeated his compatriot Lim Ming Hong, who is ranked 125th globally, 21-17, 21-13 to secure his best result of the year so far. Aidil Sholeh will face China's world No. 43 Dong Tian Yao in the semi-finals on Friday.

Meanwhile, in the men's doubles category, world No. 91 Choong Hon Jian paired with Wong Vin Sean and also reached the last eight after defeating Lee Yi Bo-Lim Tze Jian 21-16, 21-11. Their quarter-final opponent will be fellow Malaysian Lee Yi Bo-Lim Tze Jian. On the women's singles front, world No. 54 Goh Jin Wei was eliminated from the Vietnam Open in the last 16 after losing to India's world No. 64 Isharani Baruah in straight sets 21-18, 21-16.

World No. 64 Siti Zulakha Azmi was also knocked out of the tournament after a 21-16, 21-7 defeat to Taiwan's world No. 54 Huang Ching Ping. In the mixed doubles event, world No. 179 Tan Zhi Yang-Teoh Mei Xing advanced to the quarter-finals after defeating Taiwan's Tsai Fu Cheng-Tsung Yu Hsuan 21-14, 21-17, facing top seeds and world No. 31 Wu Guan Xun-Lee Chia Hsin in Friday's match.
