A year after Charlie Kirk’s death, are young voters turning on Trump?

A year after Charlie Kirk's assassination, the young conservative movement he founded continues to evolve. Turning Point USA, which Kirk founded, remains the dominant youth organization in the conservative movement. However, the absence of Kirk has left a void that few can fill. J.D. Vance, the Vice President of the United States, reflected on the impact Kirk had on the movement, noting that his loss has created a significant gap that is difficult to fill.

Turning Point USA has expanded, particularly by adding more high school chapters to inspire younger generations with conservative values. However, the organization has faced challenges in addressing the rise of openly racist and antisemitic elements in the movement, particularly those associated with figures like Nick Fuentes. While Turning Point USA has been clear about rejecting such views, some disaffected young men still show up at their events.

The movement is also grappling with the growing disillusionment among young voters who once supported President Trump due to concerns about affordability, the war in Iran, and other policy issues. This discontent has created fractures within the conservative movement, with different factions advocating for distinct ideas about what conservatism should represent.

Despite these challenges, Turning Point USA remains a significant force in the young conservative movement, with plans to continue expanding and engaging with the next generation of conservative leaders.
