'33-vote support for senator candidate shows Perak unity government remains strong'

In a clear demonstration of Perak's unity government, the state's representatives unanimously backed Perak PKR chairman Mohamad Hairul Amir Sabri as a senator, as reported from IPOH. Azam Afandi, PKR's information chief and spokesman, clarified that the 33-vote support was not merely a mandate for Hairul, but a testament to the harmonious cooperation among the parties forming the state's unity government.

The full 33 votes from the government bloc reinforced this, showcasing that the relationships and collaboration within the unity government remain robust and stable. Perak's unity government is a blend of Barisan Nasional, Pakatan Harapan, and Perikatan Nasional, with the latter holding 26 seats. Azam emphasized that political stability and unity, forged on mutual trust and the people's welfare, are crucial in the face of an increasingly challenging political climate.

PKR intends to uphold this unity, promising to assist Hairul in representing Perak's voice and interests in the Dewan Negara with integrity, wisdom, and commitment. Azam expressed deep gratitude to PKR's partners from Pakatan Harapan, particularly DAP and Amanah, as well as unity government partners from Barisan Nasional, underscoring that ongoing cooperation is vital for sustained political stability and prioritizing the people's needs.

Hairul, a 38-year-old, replaced Perak Pas Dewan Ulama chairman Muhammad Zulkifli Muhammad Zakaria, who was the other candidate. The 59 votes cast included 33 in favor of Hairul and 26 for Zakaria. The election was triggered by the expiration of the term of Perak PH chairman Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusuf Rawa on May 24.
