2027: Nigerians can donate to fund our campaign — NDC

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced plans to fund its 2027 election campaign through contributions from ordinary Nigerians, instead of relying on wealthy individuals and political financiers. NDC national leader and Bayelsa West senator, Seriake Dickson, revealed this during an appearance on Arise News’ Prime Time.

Dickson emphasized the need to reduce the influence of billionaires and those who misuse government resources, stating that such funding undermines democracy and disadvantages ordinary Nigerians. The party intends to allow contributions as low as N1,000 and N2,000, enabling citizens of all financial statuses to participate in the political process.

Dickson emphasized that the NDC is the only political party not dependent on government funds, and they are committed to an alternative approach to political financing. The party is currently consulting on the composition of its presidential campaign council, which will be made public after consultations conclude. Dickson also appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, and other institutions involved in the electoral process to ensure the 2027 elections are conducted freely and fairly.

The NDC maintains that its candidate-selection and fundraising methods are not based on allegations of illegal payments, rejecting claims that their candidate-selection process and funding were influenced by financial arrangements.
