15 Suspects Arrested In Major Police Operations; 8 AK-47 Rifles Retrieved

The Ghana Police Service has conducted major intelligence-led operations resulting in the arrest of 15 suspects across the country. Eight AK-47 rifles were recovered during these operations. Among the suspects were five gun traders, five individuals linked to a highway robbery on the Accra-Kumasi road, and three suspects involved in robberies in Buipe, Tamale, and Mion.

The operation targeting the Buipe, Tamale, and Mion case led to the arrest of Yacouba Oumar, Abdul Alhassan Kudus, and Abdul Rahman Haruna, also known as Saaga, who are accused of robbery and murder. All three are in custody and assisting with investigations. A separate operation resulted in the arrest of a gang leader and four others involved in a highway robbery on the Enyiresi-Sekyere stretch of the Accra-Kumasi highway on August 18, 2026.

The recovered pump-action gun was used in this incident. A 14-year-old juvenile, who acted as a lookout, was also apprehended. In a separate development, intel-led operations between June and July 2026 led to the arrest of five suspects and recovery of eight AK-47 assault rifles, one SMG rifle, and two foreign pistols. These suspects are in custody awaiting trial.

Inspector General of Police Christian Tetteh Yohuno emphasized the commitment of the Ghana Police Service to apprehend all criminal elements, regardless of their hiding places.
