Zoomlion disinfects public facilities in Sefwi Wiawso over health risks

Zoomlion Ghana Limited recently launched a two-day disinfection and disinfestation campaign in the Sefwi Wiawso Municipality of the Western North Region to safeguard public health. The initiative commenced on August 26, 2026, at 3:30 p.m. and concluded at 7:30 a.m. the following day. The extensive operation targeted key public spaces such as the municipal assembly, markets, lorry parks, public toilets, and refuse container sites.

The disinfection effort aimed to mitigate the spread of mosquitoes, flies, and other disease-carrying pests, as well as reduce the risk of waterborne and vector-borne illnesses like malaria, cholera, and typhoid. The timing of the exercise was carefully planned to minimize inconvenience to traders, commuters, and other users.

The corporation bore the full cost of the operation under its Corporate Social Responsibility program, providing the service free of charge to the municipal assembly and the community. Mr. Richison Nii Ayi Reindorf, the Western North Regional Manager of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, highlighted that the intervention was prompted by environmental health concerns related to the rainy season and recent flooding, which can create breeding grounds for mosquitoes and heighten exposure to waterborne diseases.

Mr. Paul Kwesi Nutsugah, the Western North Regional Environmental Health Officer, praised Zoomlion for the intervention and emphasized the importance of collaboration among the company, local authorities, and environmental health officers in curbing sanitation-related public health risks. Residents, traders, and facility managers were urged to also contribute by maintaining cleanliness, disposing of waste responsibly, and eliminating standing water that could breed mosquitoes.

This joint effort underscores the significance of partnerships between private-sector organizations, local governments, environmental health officials, and communities in fostering cleaner environments and protecting public health.
