York prop Vaughan to retire at end of season

York Knights prop Paul Vaughan plans to end his professional rugby league career at the close of the current Super League season. The 35-year-old Australian, who has made 25 appearances for the Knights and scored seven tries, began his career with the club in the 2026 Super League season after leaving Warrington Wolves. Vaughan, a former dual international for Italy, Australia, and New South Wales, made his debut for the Canberra Raiders in 2013 and had stints with St George Illawarra and Canterbury Bulldogs before moving to England.

Despite the Knights finishing in 10th place this term, Vaughan's last game for the club will be played against Bradford Bulls at the LNER Community Stadium. In his farewell statement, Vaughan expressed gratitude to his family, teammates, coaches, and fans for their support throughout his journey. Knights head coach Mark Applegarth praised Vaughan's decision to join the club and highlighted his leadership qualities, emphasizing the profound impact he has had on the team this season.
