Warehouse explosion in northwestern Syria kills at least 4

An explosion at a temporary storage site for Syrian weapons and remnants of the civil war has resulted in at least 14 deaths and 11 injuries, according to Syrian authorities. The blast occurred near the city of Sarmada in the northwestern province of Idlib. The Syrian Defense Ministry reported that some of their personnel were among the wounded.

The area, filled with volatile materials, experienced secondary explosions and fires that complicated emergency response efforts. Smoke was visible from the blast site for an extended period. Preliminary figures from the Idlib health department show 14 fatalities and 11 injuries. The cause of the explosion remains unknown. This is the second fatal incident of its kind in Idlib province this month.

On September 1, a vehicle carrying ammunition exploded in Binnish, killing five people and injuring others. Idlib, one of the most war-torn regions in Syria during the conflict, has recently seen the country emerge from over a decade of civil war, with the new President Ahmed al-Sharaa taking control of Damascus.
