Waffenproduktion: US-Rüstungsfirma will Marschflugkörper in Sachsen herstellen

US-Israeli defense company Covenant plans to build a large-scale production facility for advanced hypersonic missiles in Saxony, Germany. According to the company's CEO, Abigail Denburg, they anticipate producing around 1,000 units in the first year, with plans to increase production to 5,000 units annually. Covenant envisions the launch of their hypersonic missile, dubbed Anthem, in Leipzig, Saxony, targeting European clients in the coming year.

Covenant also maintains a separate factory in Dallas, Texas, to cater to the needs of US armed forces. The hypersonic missile, Anthem, can carry a 200-kilogram warhead but the company does not comment on its range, which is reported to be 1,500 kilometers. Denburg describes Anthem as a weapon designed for precision strikes deep within enemy territory, also known as "deep strike".

Covenant aims to offer this weapon system at a significantly lower cost than other systems currently available on the market. They claim the Anthem system will cost a six-figure amount, less than one million dollars, while other similar weapons typically cost several million dollars per unit. The mass production of these weapons is seen as a strategic move to deter adversaries and provide customers with a more viable and cost-effective defense solution.

However, Denburg argues that the concept of deterrence is more complex, as it is essentially a calculation made by the enemy, and this calculation can change when a country possesses a large arsenal of weapons.
