Sarawak Police Chief Zainal Abdullah reported that rescue efforts for victims of a helicopter crash in Long Lellang, Sarawak, are ongoing amid rain. The intense weather conditions are challenging the rescue team working at the scene. According to the spokesman, "I am still at the site, in the process of extracting (bodies) which are still unidentified," as reported by Utusan Malaysia.

Earlier, the Director-General of Malaysia's Bomb and Rescue Agency, Nor Hisham Mohammad, informed that police and the agency are actively identifying suspected human remains at the location. The remains are collected for purposes such as fingerprinting and DNA testing by the Health Ministry and police, if necessary, to confirm the victims' identities.

The BSU team is expected to arrive in Miri later today to commence the investigation related to the crash. BSU notes that the crash scene is now heavily guarded, and the helicopter cannot be disturbed or moved without coordination with the agency. The agency stressed that the movement of the concerned team from Miri to the crash site in Long Lellang will be adjusted based on the current situation and transportation availability.

However, access to the crash scene is not restricted to BSU alone, as other rescue agencies still need to perform their respective tasks at the site. The BSU explained that the primary focus at the moment is on rescue and recovery operations by relevant agencies, particularly the police, fire department, and other authorities. Earlier, the Public Transport Authority Malaysia (CAAM) confirmed that a BO-105 helicopter carrying five people, including a pilot, crashed near the Long Lellang STOLport in Ulu Baram, approximately 930 km from Kuching. The agency reported that the incident involved a helicopter on an FDS operation at 3:58 pm.
