Unionized members of Naver's metaverse affiliate stage partial strike

Unionized employees at Naver Z Corp., a metaverse affiliate of Naver Corp., initiated a partial strike on Wednesday, opposing the company's decision to halt wage increases. The strike, which will continue until 5 p.m., was announced by the affiliate-wide union. Should the union's demands remain unmet, they may intensify their actions, threatening a full-day strike on September 23, followed by a five-day strike.

However, talks between Naver Z's management and the union have not yielded a resolution after two rounds of mediation by regional labor authorities. In late July, members gained the right to strike after 98% of the electorate voted in favor of collective action. This latest industrial action represents the second such instance in Korea's portal service sector, following unionized employees of Kakao Corp., a messenger app operator, who conducted multiple walkouts in June.
