Umno must lead Malay political unity pact, says Tok Mat

Deputy President of Umno, Mohamad Hasan, known as Tok Mat, has emphasised the need for the party to lead any efforts towards Malay-Muslim political unity in Malaysia. He stated that Umno must spearhead such cooperation, having learned from painful past experiences where they were deceived and manipulated. Tok Mat reiterated that any Malay political cooperation should adhere to the spirit and aspirations of the Rumah Bangsa vision, otherwise it would not benefit Umno.

He further clarified that the cooperation must be spearheaded by Umno, serving as its foundation and cornerstone. This comes after Umno and PAS rekindled their relationship under the Muafakat Nasional pact, which was later dissolved. Now, Umno is cautious not to repeat its past mistakes and desires the freedom to act according to its political calculations, without being tied down by rigid agreements.
