Umno delegates enter assembly on an election high after Johor, N. Sembilan wins, with Melaka next on the radar

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 9 — Umno delegates arrived for the inaugural day of the party’s annual assembly in a buoyant mood, buoyed by back-to-back wins in Johor and Negeri Sembilan, with Melaka set to be the next electoral target. The atmosphere at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur was notably upbeat, with delegates turning up in droves for briefings ahead of the formal kickoff of the 2026 Umno General Assembly.

The Barisan Nasional (BN) captured 48 out of 56 seats in Johor, with Umno claiming a majority of 36 seats. In Negeri Sembilan, the coalition secured 18 of 36 seats, with Umno winning all 16 seats it contested. Umno Youth Damansara committee member Muhammad Najeeh Norazam, 33, attributed the heightened morale to the consecutive state election triumphs.

He expressed anticipation for the decisions to be made during the assembly regarding the party’s electoral strategy and direction. Anas added that the robust turnout indicated a renewed enthusiasm among delegates. Despite acknowledging the current political challenges, Umno, he said, is now well-prepared and awaiting guidance from the top leadership.

The party’s improved confidence stems from its recent electoral successes and the prospects of a future win in Melaka.
