UK launches community connectivity hub in Ogun

The UK government has inaugurated a community connectivity hub in Ogun State, Nigeria, as part of its Digital Access Programme aimed at expanding digital inclusion and improving connectivity in underserved areas. The Siun Community Self-Built Connectivity Hub, one of ten such hubs supported by the UK, was designed around a community-led model, focusing on affordability, digital skills, and economic opportunities for rural populations.

Grace Bell, FCDO's First Secretary for Economic Partnership, emphasized that the hub represents a community's vision for the future, highlighting that empowered communities can drive more sustainable, inclusive, and impactful digital transformation.

The facility, built with locally sourced materials and sustainable energy, will offer residents reliable internet access, digital learning opportunities, and a shared space for skills development, entrepreneurship, education, and access to information. HRM Oba Lawrence Odeyinka, the Olu of Siun, underscored the hub's significance for future generations, stating that it will equip youths and market women with 21st-century skills.

"The Siun Digital Hub is critical for youths and market women to gain the skills required in the 21st century. As the hub is commissioned, our commitment to ensuring its lasting operation is guaranteed," he said. The project's success was driven by strong community participation and support from local leadership, with the Oba playing a vital role in the hub's design, construction, and operational planning.
