UIDAI Chairman Neelkanth Mishra unveiled the initiative at the Global Fintech Fest 2026, which took place in Mumbai from September 8 to 11. The new SDK empowers partner banks and businesses to perform Aadhaar authentication locally on their own servers, rather than relying on UIDAI’s central infrastructure. By running authentication processes on local servers, financial institutions assume full responsibility for securing their systems, thereby shielding UIDAI’s central infrastructure from potential breaches.
Mishra cautioned that removing geofencing without adequate protection measures could compromise critical infrastructure. Currently, Aadhaar authentication handles around 10 crore transactions daily, up from nearly seven crore transactions just a few years ago. The UIDAI infrastructure is being upgraded to handle between 25 crore and 30 crore authentications daily.
Over 600 entities already utilize the platform, with the Aadhaar mobile application nearing six crore downloads. Maharashtra recently permitted vehicle record corrections when there are discrepancies between the Aadhaar-registered name and the vehicle registration number, providing relief to transporters. Mishra emphasized that UIDAI remains committed to securely managing the identity information of 1.44 billion Indians, while providing a trustworthy digital infrastructure, without straying from its core mandate.
