Two suspected armed robbers die in crash after holding up Limpopo petrol station

On Tuesday, two suspected armed robbers met their demise in a motor vehicle accident, less than a day after carrying out a violent robbery at a petrol station in Dennilton, Sekhukhune district, Limpopo province. The chilling incident unfolded around 02:30 when a group of 13 unidentified African males, heavily armed with handguns and rifles, stormed into the Moteti Complex, a filling station in Dennilton.

The suspects targeted the security guards and cashier, proceeding to the cash office where they utilized an explosive to unlock the drop safe. Escaping the scene on foot, they engaged in a protracted gunfight. An unspecified sum of cash was allegedly stolen during the audacious crime.

The Provincial Organised Crime Investigation Unit swiftly took charge of the scene, leading the ongoing investigation. A multitude of weapons, comprising handguns and rifle cartridges, were recovered from the crime scene.

Later, around 05:10, the police were alerted of a white Nissan Navara registration plate from Mpumalanga that had overturned on the R573 road between Slaagboom and Siyabuswa. Upon arrival, they discovered the bodies of the deceased suspects, aged 35 and 34, who had succumbed to their injuries either at the scene or during the medical intervention.

The police seized various firearms and ammunition from the accident, including an R5 rifle, two R5 magazines, 56 rounds of R5 ammunition, two 95mm pistols, one empty 9mm magazine, and one 9mm round of ammunition. Charges of possessing unlicensed firearms and ammunition, along with culpable homicide, have been filed at the Marble Hall police station. The police are continuing their probing into the matter.
