TTD approves ₹2 lakh cover for pilgrims who die of natural causes in Tirumala, a first in the country

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Board has taken a pioneering step by approving a life insurance cover of ₹2 lakh for pilgrims who pass away of natural causes while visiting Tirumala. This unprecedented decision aims to provide financial security to the families of the deceased pilgrims. The announcement was made ahead of the Salakatla Brahmotsavams of Lord Venkateswara, which is expected to see a large number of devotees flock to the temple.

The Board, led by Chairman B.R. Naidu, also increased the accident insurance compensation for families of devotees who die in accidents in Tirumala from ₹3 lakh to ₹10 lakh. This move showcases the TTD's commitment to the welfare of its visitors. The Board also expanded its Employee Health Facility (EHF) benefits to retired CPS/NPS pensioners and their families on par with those of OPS pensioners.

Additionally, the TTD has sanctioned ₹1.60 crore over three years for transport charges for sanitation personnel during the Brahmotsavams, and approved proposals for 400 additional outsourcing posts to increase laddu production during peak demand. The Board has also approved a biogas plant project using food waste from Annaprasadam centres, canteens, and hotels, which will be managed by GPS Renewables at a cost of ₹2.80 crore.
