Toto Wolff Praises Kimi Antonelli’s Ability to Learn and Adapt Quickly, Likens Him to an AI Agent

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has commended the rapid learning and adaptability of rookie driver Kimi Antonelli, likening him to an artificial intelligence agent. Antonelli, 20 years old, made his debut season in motorsport last year and quickly made mistakes expected of a rookie. However, just last weekend’s Italian Grand Prix at Monza showcased his growth, as he started from 19th on the grid due to a penalty but went on to win the race after a fierce battle with teammate George Russell.

The young driver currently leads the championship by 66 points over his teammate. Despite the impressive lead, it does not guarantee a championship win at this stage of the season. Team principal Wolff had faith in Antonelli from the beginning and supported him throughout his journey. He acknowledged the challenges Antonelli faced last year, including a period where he scored points over nine races.

After a tough performance at the Chinese Grand Prix, Antonelli came back strongly at Monza, which is when Wolff first told him to wake up and start performing better. The team principal believes Antonelli has processed the vast changes in the sport due to the switch from ground effect cars to new ones that derive nearly 47% of their power from electricity.

Despite these changes, Antonelli has adapted quickly and continued to stay ahead of the competition. Wolff was amazed by the speed and efficiency with which Antonelli has developed, comparing it to an AI agent continuously self-improving and learning.
