‘Too early to say they’ll make it’: India World Cup winner on Rohit, Kohli playing 27 WC

Former Indian cricket seamer Ashish Nehra has expressed his skepticism about Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli potentially making it to the 2027 ODI World Cup, set to be hosted in Africa. Nehra, who enjoyed success as part of the 2011 World Cup-winning team, stated that it is still too early to determine whether the duo will feature in the tournament.

He emphasized that while Rohit and Virat have achieved remarkable success over the past decade, the rapid pace of cricket and the introduction of new formats make it difficult to predict their participation with certainty.

Nehra cited the example of Shubman Gill, who did not make India's T20I squad despite being the captain in ODIs and Tests, to highlight the unpredictability of team selections. Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be 39 years old during the 2027 World Cup, and Nehra stressed that age is merely a number. He suggested that their continued consistent performance in runs would be crucial factors in their selection, but ultimately, the decision-making process involves various stakeholders, including selectors and club management.
