Tamil Nadu government transfers 27 IAS officers in major bureaucratic reshuffle

The Tamil Nadu government has granted preliminary approval to construct a new assembly-secretariat complex at Pattinapakkam, also known as the Foreshore Estate in Chennai. This modern facility will span over 20 lakh square feet and will be built on a total of 25.55 acres of land. The Public Works Department has been instructed to submit a Detailed Project Report (DPR) and estimates within three months of the approval.

Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay made the announcement in the Assembly on September 3, stating that the project cost is estimated to be ₹1,200 crore. Presently, the Legislative Assembly and Secretariat offices are located on the historic Fort St. George campus. The land for this new complex was identified from four sources: 21.76 acres under the Tamil Nadu Housing Board, 0.93 acres from the Greater Chennai Corporation, 1.73 acres from the Revenue Department, and 1.13 acres owned by the State government itself at the Foreshore Estate, all of which are located in Mylapore town.

Committees have been set up to handle different aspects of the project, including the selection of an architectural consultancy and the finalization of building designs.
